Backcountry Skiing at Hurricane Ridge

Saturday December 7 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Snow is falling in the mountains,  and I suspect there will be enough snowpack by early December to go backcountry skiing at Hurricane Ridge.  We have many options for tours there and will take into consideration the NWAC Avalanche information and our own judgement to decide where to go.   Ideally, we can take a few laps in the Sunrise area.

To go on this trip, you need to have skis with Alpine Touring (AT) bindings and climbing skins.  It would be great if you could bring a transceiver, avalanche probe, and shovel, but for this trip I won’t require them.  It’s really not safe to go into the backcountry without those things, so if some participants don’t have that gear, we will need to be very conservative in our choice of terrain.  I just don’t know how much interest there is in this kind of activity so I’m trying to be relaxed about requirements.  Backcountry skiing is physically demanding, and not knowing each other, I want this to be a very relaxed trip where we are accommodating to what each of us can do.  If a bunch of Skimo racers show up for the trip I hope you’ll be accommodating to me!

8:00 AM:  Meet at the park and ride on the east side of the Hood Canal bridge, hopefully we’ll already have carpooling worked out.

Call or text Scott to discuss the trip.
