Join me on two seperate hikes to Umtanum Falls and Black Canyon in Central Washington near Ellensburg. Umtanum Falls is roughly 2 miles round trip and practically zero elevation gain. The Black Canyon Loop is around 7.5 miles and 1700 feet of elevation. Black Canyon was recently burned out in the 2020 Evans Canyon fire so it will be interesting to see how the aspens are coming back.
I plan to do this as a day trip. You are encouraged to find accomodations in Ellensburg or Yakima if all that driving doesn’t suit you.
I plan to meet everyone at the Buzz Inn Steakhouse at 9am which is just off the hwy in Ellensburg on Canyon Rd. From Silverdale, it is roughly a 2.5 hour drive.
The side road going into Black Canyon is very rough. You’ll want a high clearance vehicle. A Discover Pass is needed to park at the trailhead.
This is in hunting season so bring hunter orange or something bright.
